Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris, born on the 20th of October 1964, is a prominent American politician and lawyer. She is currently the 49th vice president of the United States. She is the first female vice-president and the highest ranking female official in the United America. She is a senator and former US senator representing California. Harris was born in Oakland. Harris received her law degree from Howard University. Harris started her career in the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Harris was later appointed by the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003, she was appointed district attorney for San Francisco. Harris was appointed Attorney General of California in 2010, and then re-elected in 2014. Harris was the United States junior senator from California from 2017 until 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Sanchez to become the 2nd African American woman senator and the first South Asian American ever to be elected to the United States Senate. As senator, Harris fought for healthcare, federal de-scheduling and the legalization of cannabis as a pathway to citizenship of undocumented immigrants, and the DREAM Act which bans assault weapons. Her sharp questioning of Trump officials in Senate hearings has garnered her national attention, including the second Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh who was indicted with sexual assault.
